Sumire first opened in Tokyo in 2009 and now boasts over 80 outlets in Japan, with outposts in Singapore and China.

Its yakitori menu is extensive. When unsure what to order, go for the Sumire yakitori platter comprising chicken heart, liver and thigh, chicken with leek, tomato bacon and pork belly. Great for sharing, diners can pick either the eight- or 12-skewer option. Grilled to tender perfection, the flavors are accented by salt and Sumire’s signature Tare Sauce from Japan.

While yakitori is the highlight, there are other brilliantly executed dishes like Aburi Salmon Mentai Mayo Roll, Wagyu Zabuton Steak, and Bakudan Korokke. A crowd favourite, the latter is a homemade potato croquette with an eggy surprise within.  Cut it open from the center of it and you’ll be rewarded with the flowing lava of an onsen egg.

Wash it all down with some sake, beer or umeshu – the restaurant offers a good list of alcoholic drinks that will leave you spoilt for choice.
