With humble beginnings as a crowdfunded project, Sabar’s ambition is simple: to elevate the Saba fish, also known as mackerel, to an ubiquitous level that terms like ‘sushi’ or ‘karaoke’ currently occupy on the global stage.

Incorporating the versatile staple into every dish, Sabar’s dedication to the fish borders on the obsessive —  in the best way possible. They use only the top quality mackerel from the North Pacific coast of Japan. Savour it in the classic teishoku style, or try it atop a bowl of ramen; whatever you can imagine, you can be assured that they will have it.

Their decor has also been inspired by the fish with the infusion of some belly-tickling Osakan humour. You might notice that the number ‘38’ appears everywhere throughout the establishment, which, in Japanese, sounds just like the word ‘Saba’.
