Though only a youthful 5-year old establishment, Ishinomaki has become a quiet favourite among robatayaki connoisseurs with its premium meat, fresh seafood and a wide variety of sake to follow. It’s decor resembles a cosy fishing boat cabin, giving you a rustic by-the-sea experience that will have you transported to the clear, rolling waters of Japan. One of their specialties is the ‘Black Box’ menu, where dishes are prepared corresponding to the mystery seasonal ingredients found within it, directly imported from Japan’s fishing port. It requires immense skill and knowledge of Japanese food for these chefs to come up with new palatable dishes each and every day, and they never disappoint. As such it makes sense that they proudly brandish their ‘Pride Fish’ plague, a distinguished title bestowed only to select restaurants that carry fresh and in-season fishes; there’s not many places in Singapore carrying this honour, but Ishinomaki is one of them.
