This weekend, The Local People (TLP) will take over Chinatown Food Steet (CFS) with their own artisanal food and beverage vendors alongside permanent CFS hawkers for their first-ever Local Lingo Tingkat Party. Open from 1-11PM, the fully pedastrianised CFS will allow visitors to feast in comfort along their al-fresco dining area, shielded from the sweltering sun by a glass canopy shelter and an internal cooling system. Some must-visit food stops include red plum ice popsicles by @bingz_official and handcrafted ice cream by @dancingelephanticecream, with flavours like Speculoos & Salt and Zabaglione Rum Raisin.
If you’re yearning for some old school vibes, TLP will be selling a retro tingkat ($12, U.P $15) that brings back all the nostalgia from the times when tingkat caterers were the norm in Singapore. With every purchase of one tingkat, diners can select up to three of their local favourites from 16 dishes offered by hawkers at CFS. Some tasty selections include the Yang Zhou Fried Rice from Boon Tat Street BBQ Seafood, Fried Carrot Cake (black) from Chinatown Cheng Kee Hokkien Mee, Cheese and Egg Prata from Prata King Indian Cuisine and Chicken Satay (5 pcs) & Ketupat from Newton Circus Ahmad Ibrahim Satay.
It’s not all just food and drinks at the Local Lingo Tingkat Party. Get your creative juices flowing with these sewing workshops by @fashion.makerspace. Learn to sew Good Morning drawstring bags (pictured above), ba zhang (dumpling) bags and more by securing your spaces here.
As part of their art market line-up, there will be numerous vendors hawking their wares as well. Look out for this historical Sungei Road Thieves Market memorabilia by @helloentrepot (pictured above) – as well as new reads by @asiapacbooks, geometric necklaces by @lilyandbling, and healing crystal pouches by @mygrandmassecret.
The Local Lingo Tingkat Party runs from 4 to 5 November 2017, from 1 to 11PM, as a celebration of local culture with merchandise and food by craftsmen and women, young and old.
